2023 World Standards Day – ESG standardization work
Press release of 12 October 2023
Every year the international standardization organizations ISO, IEC and ITU, along with their national member organizations, celebrate World Standards Day on 14 October. On this occasion they recognize their collective standardization work and the commitment of the standardization experts who are actively involved. The 174 national standards committees of the Swiss Association for Standardization (SNV) alone include around 2,088 experts from the fields of economics, science and society. Their work contributes significantly towards managing global challenges, achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and establishing new technologies, research results and products in the market and in society.
Standards also help at the management level. They are developed from practice to be used in practice, and provide support in day-to-day management. Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) are three key words that managers cannot ignore at the moment. Companies are increasingly under pressure to make a contribution towards achieving the global sustainability goals, and to report on their ESG performance in a transparent manner. On 13 October 2023, the SNV is holding an event on the topic of “ISO4ESG – Wie ISO-Normen die Einhaltung der ESG-Kriterien sicherstellen” (“ISO4ESG – How ISO standards ensure compliance with ESG criteria”). The objective of the event is to highlight the fundamentals of ESG and to inform participants how they can support standards in this area.
The event is open to the public, and members of the media are also very welcome to attend.
