The collection of 139 frequently asked questions on the revised Directive of Machinery was elaborated in 5 parts between May 2009 and January 2012 on the basis of discussions in seminars and individual business consultations and therefore, stands for high usability in practice. Some companies call the documents «their intern bible of the directive of machinery» or «just top!».
The documents are adressed to engineers, constructors, CE- or quality experts and are a fast and manageable help in the daily work of machinery manufacturers.
The author, Dr. Jürg Zwicky, was for many years the legal counsel for Swissmem, the Swiss association for mechanical and electrical engineering industries. In that function, he was responsible for European technical law, especially the EU-Machinery Directive, for 20 years, and he was member of various working groups at national and European level. Since 2007, he has been working as consultative lawyer and regular speaker in the field of technical law. From 2007 to 2010, on behalf of Swissmem/ORGALIME, he was a member of the editorial group of the European Commission, who developed and published the guidelines on the revised Machinery Directive. Since 2000, he is the Chairman of the ORGALIME Core Group «Machinery Directive» in Brussels.
As in the previous 4 parts, the FAQs of part 5 (questions/answers 117–139) are divided into aspects with regard to formalities and aspects with regard to the scope of application of the Directive. When collecting the material to elaborate part 5, manufacturers raised again important questions regarding used machinery and «new» machinery on stock as well as questions regarding instruction manuals and assembly instructions which are treated in part 5 of the FAQs in a practical manner.
