Blockchain and DLT in the energy sector

Artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, DLT, data protection – these buzzwords are in constant circulation, changing business models and creating new ones. Progressive digitalisation is influencing and changing our daily life. We need to actively shape this digital transformation and establish robust rules, including when it comes to energy supply. That is why the Swiss Federal Office of Energy continually analyses important developments and effects relating to digitalisation, and actively supports digital innovation in the energy sector. One of its initiatives has been creating a working group for blockchain and DLT, which is managed by the SNV. Its final report was published at the end of April 2023.

Representatives from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU), the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), the company Sipenco, CEN/CENELEC and the European Commission are the experts who make up the working group on blockchain and DLT, which is managed by the Swiss Association for Standardization (SNV) and the Swiss Federal Office of Energy as part of the “EnergieSchweiz” programme. “Sector Forum Energy Management – Energy Transition” is the closing report of the SFEM working group and highlights the current challenges and standards requirements in the energy sector. It takes the objectives of the European Green Deal and the initiatives of the European Commission into account, with the overall goal of making Europe climate-neutral by 2050.
