The Swiss Association for Standardization (SNV) supports the new standardization strategy of the European Commission

On Wednesday, 2 February 2022, the EU Commission published its new standardization strategy. This strategy aims to strengthen the global competitiveness of the European Union and to drive forward the change to a green, digital and resilient economy.

This strategy highlights the central role played by standards in achieving a resilient, green and digital internal market. Thierry Breton, EU Internal Market Commissioner, emphasises this in the press release of 2 February 2022 : «Technical standards are of strategic importance. Europe’s technological sovereignty, ability to reduce dependencies and protection of EU values will rely on our ability to be a global standard-setter. With today’s Strategy, we are crystal-clear on our standardisation priorities and create the conditions for European standards to become global benchmarks. We take action to preserve the integrity of the European standardisation process, putting European SMEs and the European interest at the centre.» The Swiss Association for Standardization (SNV) takes a sympathetic view of the new standardization strategy. Marcel Knecht, Head of Core Business at SNV, adds: «The new European standardization strategy recognises the seriously important role played by standards in the European internal market, one of key significance to Switzerland. The SNV is currently analysing this strategy in detail to evaluate the impact of changes to EU Regulation 1025/2012 will have on Switzerland as an EFTA country.»
