World Standards Day 2021 – a shared vision for a better world

Press release from 14 October 2021

The world is facing a number of challenges in connection with sustainable economic activity, environmental protection and social justice. In order to tackle these challenges, the UN created its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a global shared project. National standardization work plays an important role in reaching these global sustainability targets.

World Standards Day takes place on 14 October every year. This year, the motto is «Our vision for a better world», and it aims to highlight the role that standardization work can play in achieving the 17 SDGs. In order to achieve these targets by 2030, a number of public and private institutions will need to work together, using all of the resources available to them – including international standards and conformity assessments. National standardization work helps organizations and other stakeholders create sustainable, economically viable and socially responsible solutions.

With its weekly short videos, the SNV Swiss Association for Standardization demonstrates the varied ways in which national standardization work can contribute to achieving the SDGs.
