World Standards Day 2022 – standards are here to stay

Press release of 14 October 2022

You may not always notice when standards are in place, but they are present everywhere. World Standards Day on 14 October marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Switzerland has been a member of ISO since the beginning and still holds substantial weight within the organisation.

World Standards Day is celebrated every year on 14 October. That's because seventy-five years ago today, delegates from 25 countries gathered in London and resolved to establish an international organisation dedicated to standardisation. This marked the beginning of global standardisation. The goal of the new organisation was to streamline coordination and harmonise the standards developed by its member organisations. Standards have now become firmly established in today's world and in the modern economy, even if consumers are not always aware of them. They can be found nearly everywhere, ticking along in the background.

In our detailed article «Standards are here to stay», you can find out what role the Swiss Association for Standardization (SNV) plays in the international standards process and what importance is ascribed to standards. We would be happy to provide you with the article if you let us know of your interest.
