AHG

Ad Hoc Group = temporary working group within a standards committee, which deals with a special topic or issue and is then dissolved again.

AWI

Approved Work Item = approved new standards project

CASCO

Committee on Conformity Assessment = ISO standards committee which deals with the subject of conformity assessment

CCMC

CEN-CENELEC Management Centre

CD

Committee Draft = draft standard that is distributed for the first time for comment in the superordinate Technical Committee (TC) or Subcommittee (SC)

CE marking

Conformité Européenne means «conformity with EU directives». By using the CE marking, the manufacturer confirms that the product complies with the applicable European directives. The CE marking guarantees that the European safety standards are adhered to, but it is not a quality seal.

Draft International Standard = draft standard which is submitted to the general public for technical comments

European Standardization Organizations = indicates the three recognized European standardization organizations CEN, CENELEC and ETSI

ETSI

European Telecommunications Standards Institute = recognized European standardization organization in the field of information and communication technology

European Union, currently comprising 28 member states, covering Europe and some overseas territories

Specialist who participates in the development of a standard

FDIS

ISO Final Draft International Standard = final ISO draft standard (now only editorial changes possible)

FprEN

Final preliminary EN = final CEN draft standard (now only editorial changes possible)

Harmonized standard

Harmonized standards are European standards developed by the organizations CEN, CENELEC and ETSI on behalf of the European Commission and EFTA; this means that an order for standards has been issued to these European standardization organizations. Harmonized standards serve the free movement of goods and services within the European single market. The harmonization of standards is published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
